Brugge has guided me through so much during his time with us. We brought Brugge home after losing a pregnancy, and he helped me heal. Through his puppyhood, Brugge showed us the way of life with an energetic bundle of joy, preparing us for the births of our children. I believe he knew I was pregnant again before I did, with his sniffs and head in my lap resting near my belly. He has loved and protected us with a gentle ferocity that I don’t anticipate I’ll experience again. 

As he has aged, Brugge has taught us a special type of patience. He has lovingly nudged us to slow down, if even just during our twice daily neighborhood strolls. In the way he prepared me for motherhood, he’s shown me how to care for my aging parents when the time comes that they’ll need my help…with a deep care filled with gratitude, love, and honor. It’s no coincidence that Brugge and my Dad share Feb 9th birthdays.
