Sophie was exceptionally sweet to people and dogs. I was so proud of her kind temperament and manners; I could take her anywhere. One summer, we lodged for a number of days, at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC. Sophie was always so well-behaved that some people asked if she was with the hotel. She loved camping in my jeep while touring throughout BC. The back bench was down and there was space for the two of us to have cozy nights sleeps. We walked the beach in Pacific Rim National Park and camped at Green Point. We would visit Tofino; my favourite place ever. Sophie loved it there too. Sophie and I went kick sledding during our cold winters. She wasn’t fast, but it was fun.

Sophie was very good at Agility winning second place for Bouviers in 2019 and being in the top five Bouviers from 2014 – 2019. Of course, things didn’t always go our way. When Sophie first competed at an outdoor venue (Spruce Meadows in Calgary) she did one or two obstacles then ran silly all over. Spectators laughed. Another time, Sophie ran in the “chute” but couldn’t get out. People were laughing! I was totally embarrassed.

In August 2023 she became anemic. She went quickly downhill. By the end she had a fever, was in a lot of pain and couldn’t get up with her hind legs. I made the terrible decision to let her go. Sophie got me through some hard times in my later years. I promised to take care of her forever, and I almost did. Such a wonderful soul. Gone forever.

A Silver Beard is a Bouvier who has reached their 12th birthday.

Longevity is an important part of our breed legacy and the Bouvier Health Foundation has been honoring our “senior citizens” for over 15 years. We honor any Bouvier registered with the AKC or the CKC that has reached it’s 12th birthday in the past 5 years.
